What happened to the
January issue? |
|
Some of you might have noticed
that there wasn't a January issue of our much anticipated
Carrier Pigeon. This isn't because we didn't do anything in
January (if anything, we were busier than ever before).
Actually, we had a newsletter for last month all typed up and
ready to go out to you when a sad mishap took place.
They
say that the majority of accidents happen within blocks of home.
This is apparently true with pigeons as it is with humans. You
see, our trusty Carrier Pigeon was all loaded up and ready to
deliver the January newsletter when... well...just take a
look.

The New Guy - Scott |
|
We
are excited about our newest employee, Scott Allen. He has
jumped right in and his handling most of the site updates and
maintenance for our clients, as well as lending his knowledge on
database integration with websites and will help with flash
programming.
"I’m Scott Allen. I’m originally
from Thorntown, Indiana, and a graduate of Ball State
University.
At my previous job, I was doing a lot of Flash programming and
database integration for a non-profit educational program, so
I'm hoping I can be useful to these folks and also learn a
little bit about how this kinda stuff works in the business
world. I'm also looking forward to having a good time here and
enjoying my work and this new place as much as possible. It
sounds like there are some good projects upcoming, and it'll be
fun to take them on.
Besides work, I enjoy being active. I was a sprinter in college,
and I still like to jog as much as life lets me. I also am a
huge sports fan. Unfortunately, I grew up on the Cubs, so I'm
still dealing with that. However, the Colts winning the Super
Bowl is a little bit of a consolation, and it looks like the
Cubs should at least be better this year. Other than that, I
watch a lot of old movies and spend a lot of time piddling
around on the Internet. "

Ones to watch for:

Kansas State Fair Kansas State Fair staff has contracted
LogicMaze to design and develop their site, while implementing
graphics from Greteman Group. We will be designing a custom
administrative interface to make it easier for State Fair
employees to maintain the large amount of information that they
must keep up to date on their site.
Viega NA Viega NA is a wholly owned subsidiary of Viega
GmbH & Co., based out of Germany. In 2005 Viega acquired Vanguard
Piping Systems and Midtec, inc., in McPherson, KS. In 2007, they
contracted your favorite web design company to develop their
site.
McPherson Realty Exchange We will be redesigning
the website for McPherson Realty Exchange. To state the obvious:
McPherson Realty Exchange is a realtor in McPherson.
Pampered
Paws Pampered Paws provides boarding for your dog while
you're out of town. The cool thing about the new site that we're
designing for them is that it will give the owners of the dogs
an opportunity to check on them online with a webcam system that
will be set up.
Nemaha County Training Center A non-profit agency that
specializes in the care and support of people with disabilities,
working to see that they become physically, socially and
economically included into the community. They have 30+ years of
commitment to this goal. LogicMaze is proud to be working with
them to see that they are properly represented on the web.
Hillsboro Free Press A mover and a shaker in the news
community. This small town newspaper is taking a very aggressive
approach to get lots and lots of quality and relevant content
online. We are very excited to be a part of this one and it will
kinda redefine the bar for small to medium sized community
newspapers online.
Raindance LogicMaze has been commissioned to do the
website for Blake Shelton's Fundraiser in Ada Oklahoma
again this year. Last year, the fundraiser raised over $133,600
for the victims of the state’s debilitating drought and
subsequent wildfires. LogicMaze is glad to do their part in
helping this year be as (if not more) successful.

Our friends at Rainbow Fireworks and Showalter Fireworks have
given us quite a bit of work lately, and we're loving it.
As mentioned in the December, 06 issue of the Carrier Pigeon
we created brochures targeted to a specific audience that
Rainbow Fireworks wanted to reach. Since then, they've
hired us to design a banner, lit sign, wedding newspaper ad and
a billboard. Keep an eye out for it at 43rd and Plum Street
in Hutchinson.
Arbuckle
Realty & The future of Real Estate Marketing
We enjoy working with Arbuckle Realty, a Mcpherson, Kansas
realtor. Kim Arbuckle, owner of Arbuckle Realty really
wanted to find ways to stand out from the competition in
Mcpherson Kansas. Part of our ongoing marketing efforts
include keeping their weekly print ad fresh and new.
Another idea
that we came up with to keep them separate from the rest of the
realtors in the area (of which there are plenty) is to provide
each client that lists with Arbuckle an exclusive web domain for
their property. An example is
www.1349highland.com. This makes it easier for anybody
interested to find that home listing online without any
searching at all! Our methods in Search Engine Optimization have proven effective on more than one
occasion, and we continue to improve and learn new methods. Please give us a
call if you're interested in having your site optimized to bring in more
traffic. Logicmaze Phone Number: 620-860-4237

SPAM
How does Spam Assassin work?
|
|
When the e-mail servers receive a message, Spam Assassin compares
the message to its database of different SPAM criteria. Spam Assassin produces a
numerical score based on those criteria. If the score is higher than a threshold
value, Spam Assassin adds headers like these to the message: ***SPAM***
|
|
How accurate is Spam Assassin?
|
|
Accuracy is
difficult to judge, since one person's SPAM may be a solicited message for
somebody else. Looking at some of the logs the Spam Assassin generates, it
appears to catch about 80% of SPAM. The rules
that Spam Assassin uses to identify SPAM are updated and weighted differently
with each revision of the software, so it will keep up with changes in the
nature of incoming SPAM. Of course, SpamAssassin is running a continuous fight with professional UCE-mailers
(Unsolicited Commercial Emails) who can adapt their messages to skim just below
the scoring threshold of SA, but in general, it puts up a good fight. |
